This temple has the head of Barbarik which was donated by Barbarik on the request of Lord Shri Krishna. In the era of Kalyug, Khatu Shyam is considered to be the incarnation of Shri Krishna. Khatu Shyam is also called the support of the defeated because the one whose wishes are not fulfilled is fulfilled by Shyam Baba.
In this blog post, we will give you complete information about the history of Khatu Shyam and where Khatu Shyam temple is located. The history of Khatu Shyam is related to the Mahabharata period. He was the son of Panduputra Bhima. Pleased with him, Lord Shri Krishna blessed him to be worshiped in his name in Kaliyuga.
Khatu Shyam ji’s name in childhood was Barbarik. His family, parents and friends all knew him by the name Barbarik. Lord Shri Krishna had named him Shyam because of his curly hair. Khatu Shyam ji is also known by the names Khatu wala Shyam, giver of heads, Hare ka sahara, lakhdatar, rider of blue horse and Khatu Naresh.
Khatu Shyam is also called Morbi Nandan. The story of Khatu Shyam ji starts from the medieval Mahabharata. The name of the son of strong Bhima was Ghatotkach. Ghatotkacha was married to Morbi.
Ghatotkacha gave birth to a son named Barbarik. Since childhood, Barbarik had learned the art of war from his mother Morbi and Lord Shri Krishna. Barbarik had done penance to Lord Shiva, due to which Lord Shiva gave him three Bandhas. Barbarik was very happy after receiving this boon that these three monkeys could give him victory in all the three worlds.
Barbarik became known for his bravery and powers during the Mahabharata period when the war between Kauravas and Pandavas was about to begin. Then Barbarik went to his mother and asked for her permission to watch the war. On this his mother asked him on whose side will he fight the war, to which Barbarik replied, I will fight the war on behalf of the one who will lose.
After getting permission from his mother, Barbarik set out to watch the Mahabharata war. Lord Shri Krishna was watching all this, Shri Krishna knew that if Barbarik was not stopped, it would reverse the outcome of the war. While going on the way, Shri Krishna stops Barbarik in the form of a Brahmin and asks, boy, where are you going alone with these arrows.
Then Barbarik replied that I am going to see the war of Mahabharata and I will support whoever loses in this war. Shri Krishna said that you are going to fight the war with the help of only three arrows, with their help even the soldiers will not die, then hearing this, Barbarik becomes angry.
This is not an ordinary arrow, this arrow has been given to me by my worshiper Mahaprabhu Shiv ji, let alone three arrows, it will end the war in a moment with just one arrow. Although Shri Krishna already knew this. To stop Barbarik, Shri Krishna tested him, Shri Krishna said that the boy could pierce the leaves of this Peepal tree. Then Barbarik took out an arrow and while meditating on his beloved, released the arrow.
That arrow went out sending all the leaves of the Peepal tree. Barbarik asked the Brahmin who are you and what do you want from me. On this the Brahmin replied that I need donation, can you give? Barbarik asked, “Mango, what do you want?” Then the Brahmin asked for his head as a donation. On hearing this, Barbarik understood that he was not an ordinary man.
He asked the Brahmin to come in his real form, then Lord Shri Krishna appeared to Barbarik in his real form. Barbarik got blessed in front of his Guru, then Barbarik performed bhajans throughout the night and on the next day, after taking bath on Phalgun Shukla Dwadashi, Barbarik without fear cut off his head with his own hands and placed it at the feet of God.
Lord Shri Krishna placed the head at a high place so that Barbarika could see the war of Mahabharata. Pleased with Barbarik’s generosity, Shri Krishna presented him his name Shyam as a gift and also blessed him that in the coming age he will be worshiped in his name.
Where Lord Krishna had kept the head of Barbarik. Today the world famous Khatu Shyam temple is built at this place, so this is a very amazing story of Khatu Shyam ji. The importance of Khatu Shyam will increase with Kalyug because Lord Shri Krishna had blessed him.
That as Kalyug progresses, your fame and people’s faith will increase. Today, by becoming the support of Khatu Shyam Hare, Baba is reducing the sufferings of the devotees and taking away their pain and suffering.
